Beginning of the Week Update/March Wrap Up/April TBR

Hello all! This post was meant to go up yesterday, but I had a whole lot of things to do that I couldn't miss and then when the day was over, I had to do homework. And then after that, I just wanted to sleep!

Anyway, here is my Beginning of the week reading update.

So, over the weekend, I didn't actually get much reading done. I've managed to get to about page 175 in Wicked. It's finally picking up speed a little bit. The beginning was so slow, and at this point, I'm not sure if we needed all of that background information. But, I still have a chunk of reading left to go, so we shall see.

Since this post is so short, I also wanted to include my March Wrap-Up. As you know, I read all seven of the Harry Potter books this past month. Let me just say that it was AWESOME! I had forgotten a bunch of the smaller details that they didn't include in the movies. It was great to see Peeves again and more of Dobby and Kreatcher. I really wish they had included Kreatcher in the movies. His character arc is one of the best of minor characters I think there is. He goes from practically hating Harry, Ron, and Hermione to thinking that they are okay people. He even manages to stop calling Hermione a "mudblood".

One of the biggest things I think I'd forgotten was Phineious Nigellous Black (I know that's not spelled correctly, but I'm too lazy to look it up! :P). Even though he was such a minor character, he was rather important in the final book. When Hermione took his portrait down and put it in the beaded bag and then blindfolded him, I realized how important this was to the story.

If you want, I can create a separate post for my feelings on each book.

And as for the end of the month, I started Wicked by Gregory Mcguire. As you can see from above, I've only read about 175 pages so far.

As for a TBR for April, I'm not really sure what I'm going to read. I don't have a "Spring Break" at my High School, but we do get an extended weekend for Easter, so I'm hoping to be able to finish at least Wicked if I haven't before then.

I was able to pick out the books I wanted in my Easter Basket so, I think I will read some of those (I will have a proper haul up when I actually receive the books, because I've forgotten what some of them are!).

One of the books was Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman, I know that for sure. I want to read that before the new season is released on Netflix in June, so that's on my TBR for this month. I'd also like to start the Throne of Glass series as well as finally get to Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick and Dead Girls Detective Agency by Suzy Cox. And of course finish Wicked. I'll keep you posted through my weekly updates and end of the month wrap up.

I hope you guys are having a great start to your week. It's snowing here again......... So much for Spring.

But anyway,

I'll type at you later!

Insurgent Review/End of the Week Update!

Hello all! Well, I've finally been to see Insurgent! I went to a showing today. I must say that it was really good, but there were a couple of things that bothered me. And correct me if I'm wrong here, it's been a while since I've read the books.

Okay, first off, I will always have a love-hate relationship with Ansel. How can the same person play Agustus Waters AND Caleb Pryor????? My aunt went with me to the movie and I told her that Caleb was only playing the nice guy. She was shocked to find out that he returns to Euridite and becomes Janine's left hand guy.... ish.

Next, isn't Johanna's face scarred? Don't get me wrong, Octavia Spencer is a beautiful woman, but I think Johanna's character needed the scars to show her strength.

Okay, this is one I'm a bit fuzzy on and may need to be corrected. But, doesn't Four's mom and the factionless come in in mostly the third book?

Also, I wish they showed a little bit more of FourTris' relationship because I ship them so hard.

Other than my discrepancies, I think the movie was pretty good. The sims were put together really well and Peter lived up to his character as always. It didn't match the books very well and I could go on and on and on about how I felt about that, but I won't. If it matched the book, it would have been a solid five out of five star movie. But since it wasn't, I give it a three/three and a half star rating.

Okay, now I'm going onto my end of the week reading update!

So this past week, I finished the Harry Potter series. You can see my responses to the Ultimate Harry Potter Tag in my previous post.

The day after I finished the Harry Potter series, I picked up Wicked by Gregory Mcquire. I haven't gotten very far in, and I seem to have misplaced the book somewhere in my bed............. But, it is a great story so far. So far, Elphaba is still a baby. I can't wait to see what happens as the story goes on.

I'll keep you updated!

The Ultimate Harry Potter Tag

Hello all! I just finished the Harry Potter series. It took me about three days to read the last one because I've fallen ill in the past few days so I've just spent my time reading. Anyway, I've found what claims to be the ULTIMATE Harry Potter Tag. And thus, I present it to you!

1. Favorite Book?

Hmmm.. toughie. I love them all so much. But my favorite one would have to be the Order of the Phoenix. I just find it packed with so much detail and foreshadowing for the books to come. But, if you were to ask me a few reads ago, this would have been different.

2. Least Favorite Book?

If I absolutely HAD to choose one I would go with the Deathly Hallows. I know, I know this is a lot of people's favorite book in the series. I guess for me that the reason this is my least favorite is because it's the end.

3. Favorite Movie?

Hands down Prisoner of Azkaban. I really love the way Sirius is portrayed in this movie. He's almost the way I picture him whilst reading.

4. Least Favorite Movie?

Whilst Order of the Phoenix is my favorite book, it is my least favorite movie. This is because they could have done so much with the details in the story and it just didn't meet my expectations.

5. Favorite Quote?

"His scar had not bothered him for nineteen years. All was well." :)

6. Favorite Weasley?

Ron. He's my fictional boyfriend! :D

7. Favorite Female Character?

Hermione. But, she's more than that. I don't know if its because in the movies she's portrayed by Emma Watson, but she's a sort of role model for me. I like to think that I am like her in school. I'm annoyingly smart.

8. Favorite Villain?

Hmmm... I guess I would have to pick Draco. You can see how much it pains him to be in the position he is in later in the book. And also, Lauren Lopez. That is all. ;)

9. Favorite Male Character?

The Weasley Twins. I can't pick between the two of them. As far as I'm aware, they're one entity. And they're just pure awesome!

10. Favorite Professor?

Professor Sprout. She's so down to earth with the students and there's not a lot of magic in her class other than the plants. Also, she's not afraid to get dirty. I've actually named a horse Sprout in her honor! :)

11. Would you rather A.) Wash Snape's hair or B.) Listen to Lockhart rave about himself for a full day?

I would have to pick wash Snape's hair. It wouldn't take as long as listening to Lockhart for an entire day.

12. Would you rather duel A.) An elated Bellatrix or B.) An enraged Molly?

Ooooo.... toughie. I would never want to cross Bellatrix, but Molly being angry? I'd probably pick an elated Bellatrix because she could possibly be distracted by how happy she is... Maybe?

13. Would you rather travel to Hogwarts by A.) Hogwarts Express or B.) Flying Car?

Hands down Hogwarts Express. I mean the Lunch cart alone makes me drool, but I think the chaos would be something rather entertaining to see!

14. Would you rather A.) Kiss Voldemort or B.) Give Umbridge a bubble bath?

Who comes up with these questions? I guess kiss Voldemort. It would be short and just picturing Umbridge naked gives me the chills.

15. Would you rather A.) Ride a Hippogriff or B.) Ride a Fireboat?

Firebolt. The speed would be awesome and I think it would be easier to control than a Hippogriff. Also, I fear that I am too clumsy and would easily fall off a Hippogriff.

16. Is there a character that you felt differently about in the movies?

Ginny. I think this is most everyone's answer to this question in our fandom. In the books she has so much more character and she's more out there in the books.

17. Is there a movie you preferred over the book?

Nope. All of the books were better than the movies. But that seems to always be the case.

18. Richard Harris or Michael Gambon as Dumbledore?

Richard Harris! He was much more like Dumbledore in the books. Also because of "'Did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire' he said calmly." v.s. "DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIYYYYRE?!"

19. Top thing in the books that wasn't in the movies?

Peeves. Especially in the Order of the Phoenix after the Twins leave Hogwarts.

20. If you could remake any of the movies, which would it be?

Probably the Half-Blood Prince. Whilst Order of the Phoenix was my least favorite, Half-Blood Prince was too far from the book and I would make it closer to the books. I would include more of the lessons between Harry and Dumbledore and put in more Quidditch.

21. Which house do you feel you'd be a part of?

Ravenclaw. I love learning (my mom always jokes that if higher education were free, I'd be a professional student! :P), and think I would be a great member of the house.

22. Which house were you actually sorted into on Pottermore?

Ravenclaw! :D

23. Which class do you feel would be your favorite?

Probably Charms. I feel that it would also be the most useful. I would say DADA if Lupin was a permanent teacher!

24. What spell do you feel would be most useful to learn?

In the thought of laziness, Accio. But in reality, probably Protego. I would be easily able to shield myself from most spells.

25. Which character do you feel you'd instantly become friends with?

Luna. We both a little bit outside of the realm of normalcy. ;P

26. If you could own one of the three Hallows, which would it be?

Probably the Cloak. It's the one I know most about from the books and I would be AWESOME at hide-and-seek! ;)

27. Is there any aspect of the books you'd want to change?

The fact that Lupin was not a werwolf and could have been DADA teacher for all of the books.

28. Favorite Maurader?

I like them all except Wormtail. But probably Padfoot. He makes a perfect dog and was probably the most mischievous of them all.

29. If you could bring one character back to life, who would it be?

Probably Fred. It's really hard to imagine George on his own. Even Molly didn't see that .

30. Hallows or Horcruxes?

Hallows. I couldn't kill to make a Horcrux, and the Hallows would be much more useful. I'd rather be master of death than immortal.

Well, I hope you guys liked learning more about my feelings toward Harry Potter. I must admit that I was part of the later age that read them. The first one came out when I was about two, so I can't say I was there for any of the book launches or anything like that. But, I was able to go to the last two midnight showings. :) But, I am still part of the Harry Potter generation!

End of the Week/Beginning of the Week Update

Hi everybody!

I'm sorry I didn't post an end of the week update this week. I didn't want to post one on Friday because it was a snow day for me and I did a lot of reading. And then it seemed silly to do one yesterday as I would have this one up today.

Anyway, I had a pretty good reading week this week. I was able to finish Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix as well as start and finish Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I had some extra time on my hands this week so it was great to be able to get so much reading done.

Now, my plans for this week are to start Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I'm actually going to do that when I finish and post this post. I'm really looking forward to this one because its the one I've read the least amount of time and I'm pretty sure I'm missing some details. But there are some things that stick out in my memory from the movie that I want to check with the book.

When I finish the series, I want to find a couple of Harry Potter Tags and fill them in for you guys so you get a little bit more in depth to my thoughts of the Harry Potter series.

I think I'm going to have a few days on my hands to read because I've gotten a nasty head cold and need a few days to recoup. I'll keep you updated.

Until then,

Library Stands

Hello all!

I've woken up on this lovely first day of spring to five inches of snow......... So, my plans for today are to have a mini read-a-thon! In my bed of course because I've also woken up with a massive sore throat and a bit of laryngitis. Nothing better to do!

Anyway, in yesterday's post, I mentioned Library Stands. That's where I got The Rosie Project. I wanted to give you some insight into them!

Basically, we have a town-wide book trading system. Several businesses in our town have shelves in their main entrance where you can drop off books. While they are there, anyone is able to pick them up. FOR FREE! It's a bit of a pot-luck kind of thing. You can't go to the salon saying you want to pick up the Harry Potter series. You probably won't find the entire series. But, if you're lucky, you'll find one or two.

That's one of the things I like about these library stands. You kind of get a gist about what the people in town like to read. Or not read as the case might be.

Sometimes, you get really lucky. Like when I saw The Rosie Project, I grabbed it right away! And then I had a closer look at it. It's a first edition, SIGNED copy. I almost passed out. ;P But other times, you have to wait a while for the shelves to fill back up. There are times when they are completely empty!

Another one of the best things about these shelves is that there is a wide variety of books that you may not have ever heard of. And, you can quite often find kid's books on the shelf. :)

The great thing about these stands is that it supports reading. And the fact that you don't have to pay for them is great. If you don't have a lot of money, you get to keep a book. And that makes me really happy.

I haven't seen these in other towns and cities that I've visited, but I think it would be a great addition to any town!

What do you think? Would you like these in YOUR town or city? Let me know in the comments and we'll have a chat about them!

Have a great day and first day of spring!

There's No Shame in Buying Books.....

Hi guys! So today, I went book shopping. Nothing too drastic. Just finished up a few series that I have random books of. :)

Our closest book store is a Books-A-Million. I must say it doesn't have the best choices for older releases. It mainly has new releases, books that are movies, and popular titles. I have no problem with that, but sometimes you can get lucky!

Okay, so, here are the books I got.

I already owned Cinder by Marissa Meyer, and I wanted to update that collection, so I bought Scarlet and Cress.

I also finished my Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. I had the first three and the last one, but was missing books four and five. So I picked those up!

The only thing about these books is that they are a different cover than what I already have. My other books are the ones with two people (who I can only assume are Rose and Dimitri! :P) on the cover. But, it's still the same story. So, I'm okay with that.

Next, I FINALLY finished my City of Bones series by Cassandra Clare. When I first ordered them, they were all paperback, same editions, ect., ect. But for some reason, the whole collection never came. So, I have been patiently collecting the remaining books in the series. Today, I picked up book number 1! It's kind of weird that I didn't have book number 1, but I checked that one out from the Library originally. So now, I have them all! Except The Bane Chronicles, but I will be picking that up ASAP! :D

The next two books I picked up, were by a total stroke of good luck. I was walking up and down random isles of BAM and the cover jumped right out at me. I found Wicked and Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire  WITH THE SPRAYED EDGES. FOR SEVEN DOLLARS. I don't think you realize how exciting this is for me. I'm obsessed with the play and soundtrack, so I'm interested in reading the story that inspired that!

I couldn't find a picture of Son of a Witch with the sprayed edges but above is the edition that I picked up!

The last book I picked up was not from BAM. It's from a library stand in my town. I'll have a post up soon about these library stands (most likely tomorrow because we are expecting more snow *rolls eyes*). :P
Anyway, I was able to find a first edition signed copy of The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion. It was a great surprise.

I'm still planning on finishing the Harry Potter series before I pick any of these up, but as soon as I'm done with Harry Potter, I will be picking up Wicked!

I hope you guys are having a great week!

Beginning of the Week Update!

Hi guys!

I hope you all had a great weekend! I know I did. My aunt adopted a new doggie named Mica and we've spent the weekend bonding with her. She is a German Shepard/Lab mix and is cute as a button! I'll include a picture of her at the end of this post.

So, I actually managed to get a bunch of reading done this weekend. I have gotten up to page 703 of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I am planning on finishing the book tonight, but I have a homeschool lesson tonight, so I may not have time. But I will definitely be finishing it over the next couple of days. I plan on starting Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince as soon as I am done with this one.

I really am enjoying this story. The only thing I wish was that Harry, Ron, and Hermione were a little more involved with the Order than they are. I agree with Harry when he says that he is the one who saw Voldemort come back and he is the one Voldemort is after. Anyway, its still a very good novel. There is so much foreshadowing that I hadn't picked up on in past reads of this book. And that just makes it even better!

Well, I hope you all have a great week! Let me know in the comments what other posts you would like to see from me. I hope to be getting back into my YouTubeing soon, but it's been kind of hectic as it is my last semester of High School. I've got a lot of college stuff on my plate at the moment. That's why it's easier for me to do a blog right now.

Anyway,

Type at you later,

Movie Review: Cinderella

Guys, let me premise this by saying that this may be completely biased as Cinderella has been and will always be my favorite Disney Princess. :)

So, this weekend, I went to see the new live-action Cinderella movie. And it was AMAZING!!! I laughed, I cried. It was beautiful and totally renewed my childhood fantasy of wanting to attend a ball and wear an amazing dress! :)

The movie strayed a little from the original classic, but I expected that. But the things they added, may have made the film better. One of my favorite things that they changed was the way they set up the coach. They still used a pumpkin, but the pumpkin was in a green house. And when the pumpkin turned into a carriage...... let's just say the green house was no more.

Also, Helena Bonham Carter as the Fairy Godmother? Perfection! It's really kind of weird to see her as Bellatrix Lestrange and then see her in a ball gown and say Bibidi bobidi boo. :)

I don't want to give to much away, but the dress for the ball... was beautiful. It centered around butterflies, which are my favorite animals ever. The blue was just a perfect shade that made her eyes pop. I loved how the glass slippers looked. And the fact that they had a butterfly on the toe, just made it even more perfect.

I loved how they portrayed the mice. True, they didn't talk, but they still had so much character. Their shining moment came at the end when the prince was looking for Cinderella. I won't say much about that because it's something that they changed. But it really made me smile. :)

The ugly step-sisters were ugly. Their fashion statements were very questionable. Especially for people who claimed to be fashionable. :P

The only thing I wish there was more of was singing. They threw in a few songs, but I really was looking forward to hearing some of my favorites like, "A Dream is A Wish Your Heart Makes" and "Bibbidi bobidi boo". But the songs they threw in there were beautiful.

I give it a 5 out of 5 stars, would recommend all the way! I actually can't wait to see it again and will definitely be buying it when it comes out on DVD. And iTunes. And any other way I can support it!

I always wanted to be a princess, and now I want to be one even more.

End of the Week Update!

Hey everybody!

I hope your week went well! Mine was a little crazy with school and meetings and college stuffs. But, I still managed to get some reading done!!! I finished the fourth Harry Potter and loved it once again. I always love reading the imposter Moody's side of the story. Don't get me wrong, I still think Barty Crouch Jr. is a vile, evil person. But, I really love hearing things from the villain's perspective. That would be my vote if there were ever to be another Harry Potter book. A story from the perspective of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. ;P

After I finished the fourth book, I immediately picked up the fifth one. Because I had so much to do this week, I was really only reading at bedtime. With this said, I've only gotten to page 237 (which is in the middle of a chapter!). It's taking me a little while to get through it. As I was reading through the part where they were cleaning out the cupboards in the drawing room and they found the necklace that no-one could open, I wanted to jump into the story and tell them to keep it in a safe place. But I suppose if they did that there would be no point to the sixth book or most of the seventh, would there?

But here's my question (and please debate it with me!) are the thestrals pronounced with a th- sound? Or is the th- sound pronounced as a p- sound? The reason I as is because I'm pretty sure in the movie, Luna pronounces it with a p- sound. But, I've heard it pronounced with the th- sound as well. Now I'm all confused!

I hope you all had a great reading week. I'm off to paint my nails because they've been blank for about three days now and that's longer than I usually go without having color on my nails. But that's a story for a different day.

Beginning of the Week Update!

Hi all! I'm trying out this new kind of post, so let me know what you think about it. I'm going to post a blog on Mondays and Fridays. A beginning of the week and an end of the week update. This way, I can let you know how I've done over the weekend and during the week. I'll also be posting other posts sporadically, and of course my end of the month wrap-ups. Please let me know if you like these! :)

So, I didn't read much this weekend. I'm still reading the fourth Harry Potter(and the Goblet of Fire). I'm almost done. I'm hoping to finish it tonight or tomorrow, depending on when I fall asleep. I'm planning on starting the fifth this week, nonetheless.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm going to add this part to this blog to update you on the college things that I've done. I met with an admissions councilor at the college I am planning on attending, and I had to take an accuplacer test. I passed the test with flying colors and was accepted to the school!!! I'm so excited!

I'm planning on starting a little bit early. Hopefully for the summer semester. But, I'll keep you updated!

[Enter Clever Blog Post Title Here]

So, I have no idea what to title this post, so this is what I've left it at. :)

Hi all!

I guess this is sort of an update post. I wanted to squeeze a second one in this week, but I don't know if I'll have time this weekend.

So, if y'all don't know, I will be starting college in the Summer. I want to start in the summer session so I can get used to being in the environment with not a lot of people there. Also, I've been homeschooled for most of High School, so I want to get back into the swing of being in a school building. I know college is going to be a lot different than High School, but I want to get a feel for it.

I wanted to put that out there because I don't know if that means my reading rate will slow down or not. I am currently 5 books ahead of schedule on my GoodReads challenge, so I feel good in that. But I'm not going to be changing my goal until I get to about 45 books and see where I am in the year. I will be counting any books, aside from textbooks, that I read for my college classes toward my reading goal.

I'm also thinking about posting some college life posts on here as well.

As I'm still in High School for about another three months (wow, that went fast!), we shall see!

Also, I have no idea what's up with the text in my last post. I've tried to fix it, to no avail. :(

Sassy Harry

Hello all!

I'm coming to you after finishing the third book of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. And whilst reading, I've realized how sassy Harry can be. Especially in the presence of the Dursleys after speaking to Sirius.

As I was reading the last page of POA, I re-realized this. I've always known that Harry Potter can be sassy, and often is in the movies. But I haven't read the books in quite a few years. So reading Harry's dialogue in the book made me crack up.

Here's what I am referring to....

"Godfather," spluttered Uncle Vernon. "You haven't got a godfather!"
"Yes, I have," said Harry brightly. "He was my mum and dad's best friend. He's a convicted murderer, but he's broken out of Wizard prison and he's on the run. He likes to keep in touch with me, though... keep up with my news... check if I'm happy..."
And, grinning broadly at the look of horror on Uncle Vernon's face, Harry set off toward the station exit, Hedwig rattling along in front of him, for what looked like a much better summer than the last.

Another one of Harry's particular sassy moments that I found myself enjoying again was after Harry sneaks into Hogsmeade for the second time under the invisibility cloak. Malfoy comes up as Ron, and Harry under the Invisibility cloak, are visiting the Shrieking Shack. Malfoy is picking on Ron's family and their money situation, when Harry decides to throw a handful of mud at Harry's head. Harry bends over under the Invisibility Cloak with "invisible noiseless laughter."

Hermione has her moments as well, especially in this book. Even when she is so slammed with all of her extra classes, she still manages to pull off sassiness, especially in the presence of Professor Trelawney.

Hermione does not put much into the thought of Divination and as Professor Trelawney brings up the grim as much as possible when referring to Harry, she puts a lot of her sassiness into dealing with Professor Trelawney.

Another one of Hermoine's sassy moments that I quite enjoy is her interaction with Malfoy when they are coming out of the castle and he is talking about Bukbeak's trial. And Hermione just slaps him across the face. The first time I read that, I was laughing out loud.

Ron has some sassy moments too, mostly when he gets angry. I especially like when Ron gets his detention from Snape and makes a rude comment about him (that makes Hermione go "Ron!").

I'll be on the lookout for more sassy moments in the next book, which I am going to pick up as soon as I publish this post!

Marathon March

Hi all!

I've decided to reread the Harry Potter series this month. I know that in December, a lot of people partake in #HarryXMastoYou, but I've decided to put my own spin on it. I was planning on partaking in #HarryXMastoYou, but my plans fell through. So, here I am with Marathon March!

I read the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in two days, that happened to be in February. But, a majority of the series will be read in March.

If I actually manage to finish the entire series this month, I have a short TBR as well. I still want to read Dead Girls Detective Agency by Suzy Cox and Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick.

I hope to post weekly updates on here. And I want to get more active on my book tube channel again. I will keep you updated on my twitter and goodreads, which you can find on the home page of this blog.
